Perigus Energy Deutschland has acquired the rights to the Olpe-Rehringhausen wind project from ABO Energy. The district of Olpe in North Rhine-Westphalia granted approval on 26 March 2026 for the construction and operation of three turbines of seven megawatts each, 21 MW in total, on a designated wind priority area in the Rother Stein forest near the B55 road. Terms were not disclosed. Perigus is developing its own Windfart project roughly three kilometres to the east, and cites the proximity as creating synergies in planning, delivery and later operation.
Perigus acquired the project rights to a fully permitted 21 MW wind farm comprising three 7 MW turbines, an unusually large machine size for German onshore wind and one that concentrates the entire project into three locations. The permit was granted under the Federal Emission Control Act in March 2026 and the sale followed five months later. Terms were not disclosed, which is standard for ABO Energy: Enerdatics records ten German disposals by the company since the start of 2025, including this one, and not one carries a disclosed value. Perigus, formerly OSTWIND and previously owned by Ørsted, is now part of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, with 668 MW installed across Europe and more than 160 MW under construction.
A Windvorranggebiet is a wind priority area, designated in regional spatial planning as land where wind energy takes precedence over competing uses and where conflicting development is excluded. Securing a permit inside one is materially easier than outside it, because the fundamental land-use question has already been settled at the planning level. That designation is doing significant work here, because the site sits in forest. German states have historically been cautious about forest wind, and opening wooded areas has been one of the main routes to finding new onshore capacity in a country where open agricultural land near settlements is largely spoken for. North Rhine-Westphalia is densely populated and industrially heavy, so a permitted forest site in a priority area is a scarce combination rather than an incidental detail.
Because the marginal cost of a second project falls sharply when the first is nearby. Perigus is developing Windfart about three kilometres east, and clustering two wind farms lets a developer share grid studies, construction logistics, access roads, crane movements, community relationships and, once operating, maintenance crews and spares. A 21 MW project is small in isolation; alongside an existing development it is an extension of work already underway. That logic drives geographic concentration across renewables, and it explains why a permitted site changes hands to a specific buyer rather than to the highest bidder in an open process.
Enerdatics' data shows ABO Energy selling German capacity at exactly this scale and cadence. The company has disposed of nine German projects on Enerdatics' record since the start of 2025, four of them wind transactions during 2026 totalling 40.1 MW before this deal, at tickets of 4.5 MW, 6.8 MW, 12 MW and 16.8 MW to buyers including Encavis, KB Renewables and Solvent IPP. Adding Olpe-Rehringhausen takes 2026 German wind disposals to five deals and 61.1 MW, an average of 12.2 MW. Encavis alone appears four times as a buyer across the wider set, and every transaction is undisclosed on value. This is a developer monetising small permitted projects continuously rather than in portfolios, while it pursues a restructuring and financing solution with its lenders.
The deal signals that the tradeable unit in German onshore wind is a single permitted site, and that buyers are selecting for adjacency rather than scale. At an average of 12.2 MW across ABO's 2026 German wind disposals, these are two and three turbine transactions, which only make sense to a buyer with something already nearby or a pipeline to slot them into. Expect permitted German projects to continue trading in small parcels, and expect proximity to an acquirer's existing development to be a stronger determinant of who buys than headline capacity.
The turbine size is worth watching as a separate trend. Three machines at 7 MW each is close to the current ceiling for onshore deployment and roughly three times the 2 MW to 2.5 MW class that dominated German installation in the 2000s. Larger turbines are how a constrained land base produces more energy, and they are why a three-turbine permit is worth acquiring at all. The constraint remains consent rather than capacity, which is why the permit date of 26 March and the sale five months later is the sequence that matters in this transaction.
