The race toward a cleaner energy future just intensified, and Terra-Gen is once again at the forefront. With a fresh wave of financial backing fueling one of California’s most ambitious renewable energy undertakings, the stage is set for a transformative leap in solar power generation. But what makes this development so significant for the industry, the region, and the nation’s clean energy goals? Let’s dive in.
Terra-Gen’s latest achievement—securing an impressive $383.3 million in financing—marks a vital milestone in expanding the Lockhart solar portfolio. This funding package, supported by leading financial institutions such as Credit Agricole CIB, ING, NORD/LB, and U.S. Bank’s subsidiary U.S. Bancorp Impact Finance, includes a substantial $236.1 million tax equity bridge loan, a $107.5 million construction and term loan, and $39.7 million in additional unfunded facilities. This robust financial structure not only reflects strong confidence in Terra-Gen’s capabilities but also reinforces the broader market shift toward large-scale clean energy investments.
At the heart of this funding lies the construction of the Lockhart III & IV solar projects, which together will deliver 205 MW of clean electricity to California’s power grid. Strategically located in San Bernardino County, the projects sit adjacent to earlier Lockhart phases and partially occupy the former SEGS IX site—an iconic location in the state’s renewable energy history. With connectivity streamlined through an existing gen-tie line into the Kramer Junction Substation, Terra-Gen is leveraging established infrastructure to accelerate progress. These developments complement the broader Lockhart complex, which already includes Lockhart I (85 MW), Lockhart II (75 MW), and 174 MW of battery storage at various stages.
With construction underway and commercial operations slated for 2026, the Lockhart III & IV projects promise more than just megawatts—they represent a strategic step in strengthening grid reliability and expanding California’s renewable footprint. Beyond environmental gains, the initiative provides economic stimulus through job creation and ongoing operational needs. A real-world example of this impact can be seen in previous Lockhart phases, which have contributed meaningfully to the state’s clean energy mix while supporting local employment and infrastructure upgrades.
As Terra-Gen accelerates its renewable expansion, the momentum behind solar power in California has never been stronger.
