What if one project could boost clean energy, create jobs, and even support global tech giants? That’s exactly what’s happening in South Carolina. Silicon Ranch has announced a landmark power purchase agreement (PPA) with Central Electric Power Cooperative for a 100 MW solar farm, a project that promises to deliver renewable power while driving regional economic growth.

Under this new agreement, Central will purchase energy from the solar farm to distribute across its 19 member cooperatives, ensuring widespread benefits across the state. A portion of this power will flow through Aiken Electric to supply Meta’s data center operations, showing how local renewable projects can scale up to support major global companies. By integrating this project into its power portfolio, Central is advancing its commitment to affordable, reliable, and sustainable electricity for South Carolina communities.

Located in Orangeburg County, the 100 MW facility will be funded, built, owned, and operated by Silicon Ranch, with system support from Santee Cooper. The project is expected to come online in 2027, representing a capital investment of more than $100 million. Nearly all of the solar equipment will be sourced from US-based manufacturers, supporting domestic supply chains and reinforcing energy security. Beyond the clean power output, the project will also generate $8 million in new tax revenues, strengthening the local economy while creating new opportunities for residents.

This solar farm goes beyond electricity generation—it demonstrates how strategic renewable investments can deliver long-term value to communities, industries, and even global tech players. With Central Electric Power Cooperative leveraging this project as part of its statewide portfolio, member cooperatives will be better equipped to meet growing energy demands sustainably. Meanwhile, Meta’s data centers benefit from cleaner operations, aligning with corporate climate goals. The project reflects a broader trend of utilities and developers partnering to balance local impact with global responsibility.

The Silicon Ranch and Central Electric partnership highlights how solar projects can spark a ripple effect of benefits—cleaner power, stronger economies, and resilient communities. As South Carolina prepares to welcome this $100 million investment, the project stands as proof that renewable energy development is both a business win and a community milestone.
