The race toward renewable energy in Europe has taken another leap forward with OX2 securing financing from PKO Bank Polski for its Annopol onshore wind farm. As countries push to meet sustainability goals, Poland is fast becoming a hub for clean energy investments, and this new development positions OX2 as a significant contributor to the transition.
OX2’s financing package, structured as a long-term debt agreement, underscores strong institutional support for renewable projects in Poland. Unlike traditional short-term financing structures, this model provides stability and a secure growth path for the wind farm. Importantly, OX2 will retain ownership of the project, operating under the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. This ensures not only control over long-term operations but also steady contributions to Poland’s renewable energy supply.
The Annopol onshore wind farm will be a game-changer for southeastern Poland. With a planned capacity of 40 MW, the project will include 10 state-of-the-art Vestas V136 turbines designed for high efficiency. Expected to generate 155.1 GWh annually, the farm will provide enough electricity to power thousands of homes while reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Construction is set to begin in 2025 and reach completion by 2027, marking a significant milestone for Poland’s renewable roadmap. The strategic location in the Goscieradow and Annopol municipalities also means local communities will directly benefit from the economic and environmental advantages of clean energy.
The complexity of such a large-scale renewable project demands expert advisory support. For this financing deal, OX2 was advised by A&O Shearman, who provided legal expertise on both the financing and corporate PPA arrangements. This guidance ensures that the project is not only financially sound but also aligned with long-term corporate sustainability goals. By combining financial backing with strong legal and technical frameworks, OX2 is well-positioned to deliver a project that can set new benchmarks for wind energy in the region.
OX2’s Annopol project represents more than just another wind farm—it’s a symbol of Poland’s shift toward a cleaner, more sustainable energy future. As construction begins in 2025, all eyes will be on how this development contributes to reducing carbon emissions and strengthening Poland’s energy independence.
