Novar Acquires 13 MWp Floating Solar Project from Vattenfall in the Netherlands

Novar has taken over development of the 13 MWp floating solar park at De Molenkampen near Beusichem from Vattenfall, marking a key milestone for the project. Once operational, the solar park is expected to generate renewable electricity for around 5,000 households annually.

The project has been under development since 2021, led by area developer K3Delta Zand en Grind, energy cooperative eCoBuren, and the municipality. Built on a sand extraction lake, the initiative combines nature restoration with renewable energy generation, demonstrating how post-extraction landscapes can support clean energy infrastructure.

The key signal from this deal is developer handover at the development stage to accelerate execution. With Novar stepping in as project developer, the asset now moves closer to construction while retaining strong local participation through eCoBuren, which targets 50% local ownership.

Floating solar also enables efficient land use, as the panels are installed on water rather than agricultural land. The surrounding water can improve panel efficiency through cooling and reflection, while the project integrates biodiversity and landscape considerations required by the landowner Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen.

Novar is also exploring the addition of a battery energy storage system, allowing electricity generated by the solar park to be stored and supplied later to the grid. The company currently has 600+ renewable projects under development, aiming to deliver 4 GW of capacity by 2030.
