Nadara Becomes Sole Owner of Key UK Floating Wind Portfolio Marking a Major Step in Scotland’s Offshore Energy Future
December 1, 2025
3 min read

The UK’s floating offshore wind sector has reached a pivotal moment as Enerdatics understands that Nadara completed the acquisition of a 50% stake in a major Scottish wind portfolio from BlueFloat Energy on November 27, 2025. This strategic shift—confirmed through regulatory filings and board changes—positions Nadara as the full owner of four early-stage floating offshore wind projects while continuing its partnership in the landmark Stromar development. Here’s how this acquisition strengthens Scotland’s renewable ambitions and reshapes the trajectory of floating wind in the North Sea.

By acquiring BlueFloat Energy’s remaining 50% shareholding, Nadara now fully controls a ~2.9 GW portfolio across four ScotWind and INTOG-aligned projects. The replacement of BlueFloat-affiliated directors with Nadara’s appointee provides further confirmation of the deal. This decisive move reinforces Nadara’s long-term commitment to advancing Scotland’s floating wind pipeline, which plays a central role in the UK’s net-zero strategy. Notably, Nadara’s partnership with BlueFloat and Ørsted on the 1.5 GW Stromar project remains unchanged, reflecting the importance of collaborative development for large-scale offshore initiatives.

The acquired assets include the Bellrock, Broadshore, Sinclair, and Scaraben floating projects—each strategically positioned in the North Sea. Bellrock, the largest at 1.8 GW, lies 120 km east of Stonehaven and could power over 1.7 million homes once operational, with construction expected to begin in 2030. Broadshore, a 900 MW development north of Fraserburgh, is poised to deliver clean electricity to more than 880,000 homes. The Sinclair and Scaraben projects, each 99.5 MW, are similarly impactful, capable of powering over 97,000 homes apiece and targeting construction starts in 2029. Together, these projects significantly expand Scotland’s floating wind pipeline at a time when global demand for low-carbon energy remains at an all-time high.

Nadara’s full ownership of the portfolio enables streamlined decision-making, faster development cycles, and enhanced alignment with national energy goals. The projects’ planned grid connections—from SSEN Transmission’s Hurlie substation for Bellrock to yet-to-be-confirmed landing points for Broadshore—highlight the ongoing coordination needed to integrate large-scale offshore generation into the UK grid. As floating wind technology matures, Nadara’s bold investment underscores growing confidence in deep-water wind as a scalable, long-term renewable solution. This transition not only supports job creation and economic development across Aberdeenshire but also advances the UK’s ambition to become a global leader in floating offshore wind deployment.

Scotland’s offshore wind journey is just beginning, and acquisitions like this signal a future defined by innovation, investment, and expanding clean-power capacity.
