The acquisition of White Tank BESS underscores GridStor’s commitment to providing cost-effective energy solutions for utilities and industrial customers. With growing demand for reliable electricity in regions like Arizona, this transaction represents the company’s second project in the state and further supports its strategy of expanding near-term solutions for high-demand markets. Backed by Goldman Sachs Asset Management, GridStor manages a pipeline of more than 5 GW of battery storage projects across the western and central U.S., reinforcing its role as a leader in next-generation energy infrastructure.
Located in Maricopa County, Arizona, the White Tank BESS is designed with a 100 MW/400 MWh capacity and is scheduled to come online in the first half of 2027. The project will utilize approximately 120 SolBank 3.0 battery enclosures supplied by e-STORAGE, a division of Canadian Solar. While GridStor takes ownership, Strata will continue to provide consultative support until the project begins commercial operations, ensuring a seamless transition and optimized implementation.
What makes this project particularly significant is its 20-year tolling agreement with Arizona Public Service (APS), the state’s largest electric utility. Serving about 1.4 million homes and businesses, APS will have the right to charge and discharge electricity from the White Tank system as needed, ensuring consistent reliability for its customers. This arrangement not only guarantees stability in Arizona’s power supply but also highlights how long-term partnerships are critical for scaling renewable energy integration across the grid.
The acquisition of White Tank BESS is a clear sign of GridStor’s growing influence in shaping the energy transition. By investing in large-scale storage with strong utility partnerships, the company is laying the groundwork for a more resilient and sustainable energy future.
