Elements Green has acquired the Bolney Green Energy Hub BESS from Envirotech Energy Solutions, assuming full ownership following the execution of a Share Purchase Agreement (SPA). The transaction adds a large-scale battery project to Elements Green’s growing UK storage portfolio.
The 148.8 MW / 595.2 MWh standalone BESS is located near Wineham in West Sussex, just 500 metres from the Bolney Substation. This substation is a critical export point for the Rampion offshore wind farm, making the site strategically positioned within a constrained section of the UK grid. The project secured planning approval in September 2024.
The key insight is that grid adjacency is now a core driver of BESS M&A value in the UK. This deal is not about speculative capacity build-out. It is about locking in proximity to a proven, high-utilisation grid node where volatility, congestion, and balancing requirements are structurally embedded.
As offshore wind penetration increases, substations tied to major export routes are becoming increasingly scarce and contested. Batteries located directly at these nodes face lower connection risk and stronger long-term dispatch optionality compared to projects further down the network.
The Bolney project is currently under development and is scheduled to reach full commercial operations by Q4 2027. Advisory support for Elements Green was provided by Bird & Bird as legal advisor and Everoze as technical advisor, while Fladgate and Savills Earth Capital advised Envirotech Energy Solutions.
