CleanPeak locks customer-backed hybrid capacity ahead of build

CleanPeak Energy has signed an agreement with Fortitude Renewables to acquire a 25 MW solar + 100 MWh BESS portfolio across New South Wales, comprising five solar farms and associated battery projects. Four sites are located at Ashley, Gunnedah, Dubbo, and Culcairn, with a fifth project at Warialda pending development approval.

Each project is structured around a 5 MW solar connection with co-located BESS, providing modular, grid-ready capacity. Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with the portfolio targeted to be operational by early 2027. Once live, the assets are expected to generate around 90 GWh of electricity and approximately 85,000 LGCs per year.

The key signal is not scale, but sequencing. CleanPeak is acquiring the portfolio with shareholder equity, locking in control of hybrid assets that already support committed customer demand. The projects underpin new energy contracts with Harris Farm and NAB, together representing around 80 GWh of contracted supply that CleanPeak has committed to deliver.

This structure shifts risk forward. By aligning customer contracts before construction, CleanPeak reduces offtake uncertainty and preserves flexibility on financing and delivery as the assets move toward build. It reflects a disciplined approach in Australia’s crowded development market, where execution certainty and contracted volume matter more than headline megawatts.

The deal signals a broader tilt toward customer-anchored, mid-scale hybrid portfolios, financed with equity early to secure position, then optimised through construction and operation.
