Altus Power has acquired a community solar portfolio in the US from a regional real estate developer that had already monetised the available tax benefits and did not intend to remain a long-term owner or operator. The assets were operational, stable, and no longer aligned with the seller’s balance sheet strategy.

The portfolio consists of 3 operational projects in Minnesota, totaling 4 MWdc. The projects were constructed in 2019 and have been operating for more than six years, delivering power to local businesses under the Minnesota Community Solar Garden Program.

The core insight is straightforward: developers are increasingly exiting after tax monetisation, while specialist operators are consolidating ownership of seasoned community solar assets. This transaction is not about development upside. It is about operational continuity and regulatory resilience.

By stepping in as a long-term owner and operator, Altus Power provides certainty to subscribers and counterparties in a market shaped by shifting policy and political conditions. For community solar, continuity matters more than marginal yield enhancement once assets are past their initial incentive-heavy years.

Commercially, this signals a maturing secondary market where assets trade based on durability, customer stability, and operating capability rather than tax structuring. Sellers are recycling capital. Buyers are underwriting longevity.
