The global race toward cleaner energy often hinges on bold investments, and a recent milestone in Poland’s renewable journey is turning heads. Imagine a single project drawing in billions, backed by top-tier European financiers, and poised to reshape a nation’s energy landscape. That’s exactly what’s happening as Ocean Winds locks in a major financial package to propel one of Poland’s most ambitious offshore wind farms into construction. This blog dives into the significance of this breakthrough and why it deserves your attention.

Ocean Winds has successfully secured an impressive $2.3 billion financing package from a consortium of international lenders. This marks the official financial close for the BC offshore wind farm, a crucial step that greenlights its shift from planning to full-scale construction. As a 50-50 joint venture between EDP Renewables and ENGIE, Ocean Winds is reinforcing its commitment to accelerating the global clean energy transition through large-scale, future-ready wind assets.

A project of this magnitude requires the backing of robust, credible institutions—something Ocean Winds has achieved with ease. The financing ensemble includes the European Investment Bank (EIB), Instituto de Credito Oficial (ICO), and 13 additional commercial banks, showcasing strong confidence in Poland’s offshore wind potential.

This wide-ranging support highlights the growing appetite for sustainable energy investments and the critical role offshore wind will play in Europe’s long-term decarbonization. It also signals Poland’s fast-emerging presence within the Baltic offshore wind landscape.

The financed capital will drive the development of BC-Wind, a 390 MW bottom-fixed offshore wind farm located 23 km off the coast near Krokowa and Choczewo. Designed with 26 high-capacity turbines—each delivering 14 MW, and upgradeable to 15 MW via Power Boost technology—this project embodies state-of-the-art offshore engineering.

Onshore construction begins in 2026, with the first power expected by 2028, signaling a meaningful step forward in Poland’s renewable ambitions. With its strategic location in the Polish Exclusive Economic Zone of the Baltic Sea, BC-Wind is poised to deliver clean, reliable power to thousands of households while strengthening the country’s energy security.

This landmark financing isn't just about infrastructure—it’s about impact. For Poland, the BC-Wind project supports job creation, supply chain expansion, and long-term sustainability goals. For businesses and communities, it represents a future powered by cleaner, more stable energy sources. And for investors, it underscores offshore wind’s rising value as a resilient, future-proof asset class.

As construction gears up, BC-Wind serves as a prime example of how collaborative investment and technological innovation can drive global energy transformation.
