In a significant move that highlights Europe’s accelerating energy transition, Greenvolt Power, part of the Greenvolt Group, announced on September 26, 2025, the sale of its Kozienice Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Poland to DRI, the renewable energy arm of DTEK Renewables. While the deal value has not been disclosed, the transaction underscores Greenvolt’s strategic approach to asset rotation and DRI’s growing influence in Poland’s energy market.

Greenvolt Group has consistently pursued a strategy of rotating approximately 70–80% of its internally developed assets while retaining 20–30% for long-term balance sheet growth. This sale is another step in that direction, following over €500 million in disposals already completed this year. Notably, since April 2025, Greenvolt has been marketing a 700 MW BESS portfolio in Poland, of which the Kozienice project is a part. Such divestments allow the group to recycle capital into new projects, fueling continuous growth and innovation in renewable energy infrastructure.

For DRI, the acquisition marks the second addition to its battery storage portfolio in Poland, boosting its total storage capacity in the country to 245 MW. The Kozienice project, with a capacity of 112 MW/448 MWh, further consolidates DRI’s position in the Polish energy landscape. Beyond Poland, this move reinforces DRI’s broader strategy of active participation in Europe’s clean energy transition, strengthening grid stability and enhancing energy security across the region. With the project already at the Ready-to-Build stage, all permits and approvals are secured, ensuring a smooth pathway to construction.

The Kozienice BESS is backed by a 17-year capacity market contract awarded in December 2023, guaranteeing fixed annual payments of PLN 244.90/kW ($67,170/MW). This provides stable revenues, enhancing the financial viability of the project and ensuring predictable returns for DRI. Battery storage plays a vital role in balancing intermittent renewable generation, and projects like Kozienice are central to meeting Europe’s energy transition goals. With advisors DC Advisory and Green Giraffe guiding the transaction, the deal reflects both financial confidence and industry commitment to large-scale storage development.

Greenvolt’s divestment and DRI’s expansion signal a broader shift in Europe’s renewable energy sector—one where collaboration, capital recycling, and strategic acquisitions are propelling the continent closer to its decarbonization targets.
